Okay, don't judge me. When I am supremely bored I tend to troll craigslist for entertainment and potential people to email. Frankly, I think we need to be less judgmental of craigslist personals, because they are pretty much exactly like match.com or ldssingles.com.
Here's why (in general): The "good looking" men/women on both sites are uber picky, the "okay looking" men/women on both sites are still uber picky. Then we have the pond scum. I'll concede that there are far fewer bots on match.com.
Typical craigslist personals post M seeking F:
Hi, I'm an athletic male looking for some dates. I like blah, blah, blah, hiking, blah, blah, blah. I'm looking for a girl who is HWP, sorry but BBW just means fat, LDS between the ages of 18 - 24. {insert extra details here}. Pic for pic.
Typical craigslist personals post F seeking M:
Hi, I'm a BBW looking for a non-shallow man. {insert passive aggressive rant at world}.
Typical craigslist personals post M seeking M:
RM seeks FWB.
Straight looking for bj.
Really, is this what we're reduced to? If you are an athletic guy who is as awesome as you make yourself out to be, why are you posting on craigslist? Just ask out live human beings at church, or at the gym, or hiking seeing as you love those things.
These two terms need to go: HWP and BBW. If you want someone thin, athletic, etc just say so for crying out loud. BBW (big beautiful woman), is kind of lame. I'm fat, I know it, so what? If BBW was used solely by plus sized models, it would make sense, but women who are just plain fat seem to be the most common users of that acronym.
Men, if you are gay, be gay. Don't play the "straight needs to blow of steam with a dude angle." I swear, so many of the guys here in UC are so far in the closet they've entered Narnia.
In conclusion, I totally just responded to a craigslist personal. I got bonus points for using the term "uber nerd."
